You know you are from Fort Worth , Texas When…

You know you are from Fort Worth , Texas When…

You always know which of the 3 Starbucks downtown to go to
You’ve gotten stuck behind the stockyards’ cattle drive at least 5 times
You eat Mexican food at least 4 times a week
You take all of your guests that aren’t from Fort Worth to Joe Ts
You think Dallas is too far to drive for anything
You swear the Dixie House has the best chicken-fried steak in the world
You can name every BBQ restaurant within a 10-mile radius
You know to get the $%*k out of Stop 6 at night
You don’t measure the value of a parking space by its proximity to the door of your destination, but rather how much shade it has
You w ish they would just asphalt the stockyard roads already
You firmly believe Fort Worth ’s downtown area is better than Dallas ’ downtown area
You constantly have to tell people from out of town that don’t know where Fort Worth is, “It’s 30 miles west of Dallas ”
You can’t understand for the life of you why Joe Ts still won’t take credit cards
You can remember the now-absent stench that used to come from the stockyards
You know somebody that knows somebody that’s friends with the Basses
You have a memorized top 5 list of the best Mexican restaurants in town
You can get anywhere in Fort Worth without ever getting on I-20, I-30, or I-35
You think Shreveport is just 1 step below Las Vegas
You don’t even seem to notice the police on horseback
You actually have enough common sense to not swim in the Water Gardens
You wish they would stop trying to rename White Settlement
You sorely miss the Tandy Center

You Know You're A Parent When......

Ok. I went to WalMart this afternoon to buy a birthday present for a friend of ours. 90 dollars later I left WalMart. In that purhase was a Backyardigan's CD. It is so cute. The thing is I am sitting here at work listening to it on my computer. I told myself that it was to see exactly which songs were on it as I don't know them by title. I must say I am enjoying the songs. I sooooo need a hobby aside from my kids.

First Shower

Jake took his first shower this weekend. He was so funny. He just had to be like big brother. At first he didn't want to get under the water so William decided he needed to show him how to shower. Even though Jake already had soap in his hair William showed him to shampoo and use the soap to clean up. He even showed Jake how to wash his feet. No trickle down effect here. I look at this picture and I can't figure out who looks like who. You can tell they are brothers but they don't look so much a like anymore. They are just growing up way too fast.

No More Paint!

We finally finished painting the family room and breakfast nook. That felt like it took a lifetime. I have been painting a little bit each night for a week. At least it is done. It looks really good. I was channeling David Bromstad the whole time. I even did a lot of the trim work without taping with blue tape. We kept it neutral since we have so many other rooms painted with more vibrant colors. Now I need help with accessories. That is what I have the hardest time with. And I need to replace that stupid TV stand. I want a corner TV Armoire.
Take care,
Rachel

True Love.....

I like to think this is like Doug and me when we are old and crusty.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's,arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb.

He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.
The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.
